VE-cadherin molecules are exposed on the cell surface and are sensitive to
extracellular proteolysis. The total amount of VE-cadherin remains constant as
judged from constant immunoblotting signal in the presence of Ca2+
that renders cadherins resistant to trypsin cleavage.
