Slides were stained with ${alpha}$ -express (1,4,7,10,13,15), ${alpha}$ -HP1 ${alpha}$ (3,6), ${alpha}$ -HP1ß (9), ${alpha}$ -macroH2A (12,14) and Hoechst 33258 (2,5,8). Cells in panels 4-15 were incubated for 48 hours with 5 mM sodium butyrate.
