The corpus allatum of Iphita limbata Stal. (Pyrrhocoridae, Hemiptera) is an unpaired, syncytial gland, with nuclei of two sizes. The allatic nerve transmits neurosecretory colloids into the gland. The recurrent nerve adjacent to the allatic nerve also contains neurosecretory products. The cytoplasm of the gland contains granular mitochondria which show a tendency to aggregate into clusters or rings and chains, and numerous tiny spheroids of variable size forming the lipochondria, which are sudanophil, argentophil, and generally osmiophil. Vacuoles are present in the cytoplasm; these are surrounded by spheroids. The cytoplaamic content is rich in phospholipids. The gland is larger in the female. It gradually enlarges as the eggs develop and reaches its maximum size in the gravid female.
