Note the differential behaviour of irradiated and non-irradiated mitochondria, indicative of two phases of signalling between mitochondria. Bcl-2 not only blocks the putative Ca2+-mediated signals between these two populations of mitochondria but also suppresses cyt c release from irradiated mitochondria.
