There were fewer nerves detectable at 0 hour and most were randomly distributed. At 24 hours after wounding, nerve numbers were increased dramatically. Nerve sprouts run parallel to each other and are oriented perpendicularly toward the wound edge (bottom). Bars, 50 µm.
