Fixed cells were stained with monoclonal anti-EP antibody and colloidal gold-conjugated secondary antibodies prior to silver enhancement and preparation for electron microscopy. Untransformed BS221 cells (A) were used as a negative control for cell lines expressing EPMH (B-D), Note that this fixation technique does not allow detection of reporters in the lumen of the flagellar pocket (FP).
