Sequences around the membrane-proximal cysteines are shown, with the pairs of cysteines indicated in bold. The cysteine-to-serine mutations are shown below the wild-type sequence. All sequences were cloned into a tetracycline-regulated expression vector; in some cases, wild-type and mutant claudin-14 were tagged at the C-terminus with an 11-amino-acid VSV-G tag.
