Typical force-distance curves during the forced de-adhesion of two apposing E-cadherin cells at a constant cantilever reproach velocity of 25 µm/second. One cell is attached to the cantilever of the MFP (shown in Fig. 1); the other cell is plated on a culture dish. Arrows indicate the rupture of cadherin bonds. Only curves showing a single clear bond rupture were analyzed.
