The animation provides probably the most detailed view to date of the apical
surface of the tubule. Internal view of the tubule is made possible by slight
photobleaching during the generation of the confocal stack. Note the clear
‘window’ apical to the single stallate cell nucleus
(distinguishable by its lower ploidy, and hence lower volume). Although the
stellate cell is overhung by principal cell microvilli rich in vha55::GFP, the
stellate cells clearly do not express it, demonstrating that they do not
pariticpate in electrogenic cation transport.
