Fig. S1. The Hydra KAZAL1 sequence. Alignment of Kazal1 cDNA sequences from Hydra vulgaris (Hv) and Hydra magnipapillata (Hm) species and their respective deduced proteins. The Hv DNA sequence (569 bp, accession number AM110763) is an assembly of the initial Hv Kazal1-486 clone (positions 105 to 573) indicated by diamonds and the Hv Kazal1-448 clone (positions 5 to 452), indicated by the positions of the Kazal-R1 and Kazal-R3 primers (underlined). The Hm sequence (ESTs ace_0064.y, 698 bp long) is written with dashes when identical to the Hv sequence.
Fig. S2. Alignment of the Hydra vulgaris (Hv) Kazal1 protein sequence to sequences representing the different classes of Kazal domains (KD)-containing proteins. Signal peptides are underlined.
