(A) Dynamic reorganization during asymmetric cleavage. Microtubules (blue) emanating from the proximal centrosome contact the CAB and adjacent cell cortex. During interphase the CAB is widespread and thin as the nucleus migrates towards it. During mitosis the CAB compacts and thickens as the spindle positions asymmetrically. The smaller daughter cell inherits the CAB; centrosome attraction and unequal cleavage are then repeated. (B) Multilayered distribution of the major components of the CAB. Microtubules are not represented since their precise relationship to components of the CAB is not completely understood.
