Files in this Data Supplement:
Movie 1. Aggregation of a monolayer of AX3 cells. Wild-type AX3 cells were settled on agarose at a density of 2.5×105 cells/cm2 and allowed to aggregate. At the start of the movie, cells make their first simultaneous movement surge towards the aggregation centre, which is located to the left. The length of the movie is 1 hour and the field of view is 358×269 µm. Images were collected at intervals of 10 seconds and the movie shows 10 frames per second, resulting in a 100-fold time acceleration.
Movie 2. Aggregation of a monolayer of gc-null cells. Mutant gc-null cells were settled on agarose at a density of 2.5×105 cells/cm2 and allowed to aggregate. At the start of the movie, cells make their first simultaneous movement surge towards the aggregation centre, which is located to the bottom of the field. The length of the movie is 1 hour and the field of view is 358×269 µm. Images were collected at intervals of 10 seconds and the movie shows 10 frames per second, resulting in a 100-fold time acceleration.
Movie 3. Pseudopod formation and retraction during chemotaxis by AX3 cells. Wild-type AX3 cells were starved for 5 hours and settled in a modified Zigmond chemotaxis chamber. The gradient was allowed to reach a steady state. The highest concentration of cAMP is to the right of the frame. Images of chemotaxing cells were collected every second, and the movie shows seven frames per second.
Movie 4. Pseudopod formation and retraction during chemotaxis by gc-null cells. Mutant gc-null cells were starved for 5 hours and settled in a modified Zigmond chemotaxis chamber. The gradient was allowed to reach a steady state. The highest concentration of cAMP is to the right of the frame. Images of chemotaxing cells were collected every second, and the movie shows seven frames per second.
