Wild-type CX37 (A), {Delta}5-21 (E), {Delta}2-8 (F), {Delta}9-21 (G), {Delta}2-13 (H) and {Delta}14-21 (I) each frequently showed localization to appositional membranes consistent with formation of gap junction plaques. (B) {Delta}2-21 was always localized in the cytoplasm, and no gap junction plaques were ever detected. {Delta}4-21 most commonly was found in the cytoplasm (C) and rarely between cells, in small gap junction plaques (D).
