  Fig. S1. Clustering of activated EGFR imaged in live cells by TIR-FM. EGFR-EGFP was diffuse across the surface of cells at 37°C, until addition of 100 ng/ml EGF at time 0 stimulated cluster formation.

  Fig. S2. Clathrin-mediated endocytosis of activated EGFR. Following addition of 100 ng/ml EGF, HeLa cells co-transfected with EGFR-EGFP and clathrin-dsRed were imaged by TIR-FM. Colocalized clathrin and EGFR spots were observed to internalize together at the same location, time and rate. Region size=1.97×1.86 µm.
