The past five years have seen an explosion of interest in 3D culture, catalysed by major innovations in induced pluripotent stem cells, organoid techniques, molecular imaging and higher-sensitivity approaches for molecular analysis of small samples. Find out more in our special issue on 3D cell biology.
Browse all our subject collections for papers covering a wide range of cell biology topics including adhesion, autophagy, cilia and flagella, cell migration, polarity, imaging, microtubule dynamics, mitochondria and stem cells.
“When you're motivated by a biological question, you don't stop because you don't have the tools – you develop them.”
Read the interview with Gaia Pigino from the Max Planck Institute in Dresden as she shares her journey from evolutionary biologist to group leader specialising in electron microscopy.
Current understanding of the corneal epithelial stem cell niche and its role in regulating stem cell activity during homeostasis, repair and disease is summarised in this poster from Craig S. Nowell and Freddy Radtke.
Marian Blanca Ramírez from the CSIC in Spain has been studying the effects of LRRK2, a protein associated with Parkinson’s disease, on cell motility. A travelling fellowship from Journal of Cell Science allowed her to spend time in Prof Maddy Parson’s lab at King’s College London, learning new cell migration assays and analysing fibroblasts cultured from individuals with Parkinson’s. Read more on her story here.
Where could your research take you? Join Marian and the 20 early career scientists who were awarded Travelling Fellowships from Journal of Cell Science in 2016. Apply now!
If your submission to Journal of Cell Science is unsuccessful, did you know you can transfer your paper and any reviews directly to our sister journal, Biology Open? The majority of papers transferred with reviews are accepted for publication. Find out how here.
