About the Cover
The cover image depicts a cluster of crane-fly spermatocytes at anaphase of meiosis I. As half-bivalents segregate poleward, their trailing arms stretch backward, as if tethered to their partners. Such back stretching is evident in some of the depicted cells, which were fixed in situ with glutaraldehyde prior to preparation for microscopy. Originally, this differential interference contrast image was black-and-white. Coloration was achieved using Adobe Photoshop. See the article in this issue by LaFountain et al. (pp. 1541-1549).
