About the Cover
Cover: Nerve turning response to a wound-induced endogenous electric field. The wound edge is at the bottom of the image, therefore the electric field vector runs perpendicular to the negative pole toward the bottom of the image. New nerve sprouts that turned through more than 10 degrees to project toward the wound edge were counted 16 hours or 24 hours after wounding. The image is a projection from three separate experiments and shows that nerves turned through substantial angles to project cathodally, perpendicularly to the wound edge. See article by Song et al. (pp. 4681-4690).
