About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover: In conjugating Tetrahymena cells, micronuclei become extremely elongated during meiotic prophase. In a recombination-deficient spo11 knockout mutant, DNA double-strand breakage and nuclear elongation do not take place. As illustrated here, elongation can be restored in this mutant by cisplantin-induced double-strand breaks (shown by phosphorylated H2AX, pink). See article by Mochizuki et al. (pp. 2148-2158).
